A cultural lesson that I've learned in the past few weeks

Americans and Britons speak the same language in only the broadest possible sense of the word, if at all.

So if the British declare war on the US sometime in the near future, you can probably assume it was incited by me not knowing the meaning of the word "gaffer" or something.
