$Laura.set-mode -rant

Can someone explain to me, in very small words, why round-trip airfare to Stockholm is cheaper than a RT flight to Seattle? 

I suppose the distances are roughly equivalent, but the more expensive flight is in the country I live in!!!!!!!! 

(Why does this matter?  I dunno, I'm ranting and it sounds good.)
